Vintage car rallies are always a pleasing site, not just for the cars themselves but the entire aura that surrounds such an event for you truly feel that you have gone back in time. Having said that, the recently held Teachers Origin Heritage Celebration Vintage car and Classic car rally proved to be a rather spectacular journey, for there was no option but to be mesmerized by the timeless machines that took part.
Set on a lazy Sunday, the Teachers Origin Heritage Celebration rally comprising of 50 exquisite vehicles was flagged off from the exclusive DLF Emporio mall in Delhi and the participants had to make their way to Pataudi Palace and back, covering a distance over 100 kilometers. Onlookers were visually treated to showstoppers such as a 1964 Ford Mustang, a 1950 Jaguar XK 120, a 1934 Rolls Royce, a 1952 Cadillac Coupe de Ville and 1937 Mercedes 170 V amongst other fine metal that includes a 1957 Chevy Bel Air and a number of Buicks. A magnificent site none the less.
Standing as a testimony to India’s solid motoring legacy, most of these vehicles at some point belonged to royalty. Each car has a story to share and each story involves numerous ups and downs, however the cars have been refurbished to the minute detail and the fact that they are still capable of making such a drive with ease goes to show the amount of engineering excellence that these machines possessed. In the very essence of the drive, the rally was a great way to experience the beginning!
The 1934 Rolls Royce 20/25 7 Passenger Sedan was ordered from Rolls-Royce by the Maharaja of Baroda on July 27, 1934. This is the only known Rolls Royce in India with coachwork by Kellner, Franc. The Mercedes 170V, Roadster, is known for its stunning lines and breathtaking performance, built for the great German Autobahns, this particular piece of engineering marvel was once the prized possession of yester year’s prominent Bollywood actress Mrs. Mumtaz Madhwani.
The 1952 Cadillac, Coupe de Ville, Series 62, USA is a Cadillac’s Golden Anniversary model and was characterized by a distinct, higher rear deck lid contour. The 5422CC V8 engine produced 190 HP and it also featured power steering. Cadillac had the most powerful car in the American industry in 1952. This model was referred to as 6237 DX. Previously owned by the Maharaja of Barwani and then by the Maharaja of Tehri Garhwal.
The 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air, Sedan, USA is an ultimate classic with 4500 cc silk and dynamite V8 engine. It has gold anodized trim and is one of the most desirable collector cars produced in North America. This Chevy four door sedan was previously owned by the Maharaja of Tehri Garhwal. The 1959 Cadillac Sedan de Ville, USA is a four door sedan with a 6500 cc V8 engine developing 325 horse power. This car featured the tallest tail fins in world production car history, twin bullet tail lamps, a distinctive roofline; new jewel-like grille patterns and matching deck latch lid beauty panels personified these cars. The car was previously owned by His Highness Maharaja Gaj Singh of Jodhpur, Rajasthan.
Motorcycle Rally in South Dakota
For anyone who loves to ride on a motorcycle, attending various rallies is a real treat. They provide fun opportunities to enjoy your motorcycle, get to know other riders, and have a break from the daily grind. The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally is an annual event held in Sturgis South Dakota. This rally has been taking place each year since 1938, and continues to grow in size each year. Noise ordinances are also enforced so make sure your motorcycle has a muffler on it. Motorcycle operators much have a valid motorcycle license. If they don’t, their motorcycle will be impounded.
While you are encouraged to have a great time while attending the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, code enforcement is strictly enforced. This is because of the sheer volume of people. There are fines for public intoxication, fighting, indecent exposure, disorderly conduct, careless driving. There are also Zero Tolerance laws regarding drugs. It does not matter the type of drug or the amount, you will be arrested and prosecuted.
There are many great places to hang out while attending the Sturgis Rally. There are also plenty of great concerts taking place each night. Some people decide to get married in Sturgis as well! There is plenty of food, fun, and motorcycle activities to keep you entertained for the entire rally.

Don’t feel like climbing Pikes Peak? Then watch the new Audi drive itself up. That’s right, a car that can drive itself outside of a James Bond movie. Technology is indeed a beautiful thing. Audi dealer Fairfax customers will be impressed what the Autonomous Audi TTS Pikes Peak can do.
This fall the new Audi model will make a test run up Pikes Peak in Colorado. This model is based on the street-ready Audi TTS sports car with a drive-by-wire throttle and a semi-automatic DSG gearbox, which work well with the automated electronics that make a driver optional.
The car uses two computers in the trunk. They process safety-critical algorithms with Real Time Java from Oracle and vehicle dynamics algorithms. This combined data allows the TTS drive on its own at various speeds, over different surfaces and through a mix of conditions.
In addition to trying to drive itself up a large mountain, the Audi TTS Pikes Peak will attempt a land speed record at El Mirage Lake in California this fall. Audi is hoping the car will make it into the Guiness Book of World Records for autonomous speed. The Chantilly VA used car dealer staff is looking forward to this moment.
“We were very much inspired by the Pikes Peak race cars,” said Raul Cenan, Lead Designer on the TTS project. “But there was very different technology used in those cars overall. So we decided to go with more modern elements that were heritage-inspired.”
Partners in developing the technology behind the Audi TTS Pikes Peak include the Stanford University Dynamic Design Lab, the Electronics Research Lad for the Volkswagen Group in Palo Alto, California and Oracle Corp. They chose the Pikes Peak race route, which includes pavement and gravel, to test the limits of the autonomous technology.
Audi cars have a history of achieving legendary status on the Pikes Peak Hill Climb and this fall the Audi TTS may just be added to that list. Audi Leader on Four-wheel-drive in the Premium Segment
One in every three Audi models is fitted with a Quattro four-wheel drive. Last year, Audi a subsidiary of Europe’s largest automaker, Volkswagen maker of quality automobiles and popular parts like Volkswagen headlights, has recorded an all-time highest Quattro installation rate of 33.1% or a total of 306,318 Quattro vehicles higher than what the carmaker produce in the year 2005 totaling only to 219, 288. The Ingolstadt-based car manufacturer has risen to become the market leader for four-wheel drive in the premium segment.
According to Rupert Stadler, Audi’s boss, “Quattro means more than traction- the word represents emotion, driving safety and performance, it stands for engineering competence and a dynamic spirit. Over 2.3 million Quattro models have rolled off the production line at Audi so far- a figure that speaks for itself.”
The launch of the new Audi Q7 has helped in increasing the proportion of Quattro models by six percent compared to the previous year resulting to the creation of 72,188 sports utility vehicles which are 100% four-wheel drive. The production of the RS4 model family has also increase at 7,639 units compared to the 569 produced in 2005.
“Audi equips a greater proportion of its vehicles with four-wheel drive than any other manufacturer. That is especially true of our saloons and Avant models. We have the unique selling proposition that all of the models in our current range are available with four-wheel-drive”, said Ralph Weyler, member of the board of management for marketing and sales.
A Brief History of Quattro
- The idea of Quattro came up as a result of the automaker’s desire to distribute power over all four wheels and with each wheel providing a greater lateral force than the rear or front-wheel drive.
- It was in the spring of 1977 that the four-wheel drive project was started with the objective of developing a high-powered sports coupe with permanent four-wheel-drive.
- In the year 1980 the first Audi Quattro made its debut at the Geneva Motor Show. It was in the same year that the first Audi with four-wheel drive went on sale and became an instant bestseller.
- Starting the 1982, Audi has gradually added five more vehicles with four-wheel drive to its model range namely Audi 80/90, the Audi Coupe and the Audi 100/200.
